1. How do I apply for employment with the City of Madison?: The City of Madison accepts applications only for jobs that are currently open. In order to apply, you may download an application from the City's website or you may pickup an application at:

2. Where does the City of Madison announce its job openings?: The City of Madison posts job openings on our website. The job openings are also on our Job Hotline at (256) 772-6251 and posted at the Human Resources office located at:

3. Can a resume be submitted in the place of an application?: A resume may be submitted with an application but can not take the place of a completed application.

4. Is there an application deadline?: The closing date for a particular position is listed on the job posting. Applications must be received by 5:00 pm on the specified closing date. Once the job closes, applications will no longer be accepted after 5:00 pm of the specific closing date.

You must complete a new application if:

Individuals must apply for each open position separately by contacting the Human Resources Department in writing.

6. How do I know if my application has been received?: HR Coordinators will send a response card to each applicant but due to the high volume of applicants and workload, it could take as long as a month to receive.

7. Can I complete my application online?: No. At this time, we do not have the option.

8. Can I fax my application?: Yes, in order to have the application into HR by the closing date you may fax it to HR at (256)772-5643. The original application must be mailed to us after it has been faxed.
