The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is a collaborative effort by certified law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents, and the community to offer law-related educational programs in the schools in an effort to reduce crime, drug abuse, violence, and provide a safe school environment.

About the SRO
An SRO with the Madison Police Department arrives daily at Madison's middle schools and high school in marked police cars. Armed and in uniform, he strolls through the school before classes start to learn of potential problems from students and staff.

Some days he meets with the school counselors and some days he teaches classes. Every day, he tries to build trust with the school's students, most of whom he knows by name.
