Recycling
The Solid Waste Disposal Authority (SWDA) operates the residential curbside recycling program (blue bin) for the entire City of Madison.  This is a free service offered to all Madison single family residences every Wednesday (both Madison and Limestone).

Need a Blue Bin?
Contact SWDA at (256) 880-6054 or via email.  Please include you address and phone number so they can contact you in the event their area questions.

PLEASE remove and discard lids.

Cans that contained Poison, Paint or Auto Products
Scrap Metal
Aluminum Foil
Disposable Aluminum Pie Plates

Plastic

Milk Jugs
Soft Drink Bottles
Laundry Products Bottles
Shampoo Bottles
Any narrow neck bottle that has a #1 or #2 on the bottom


PLEASE: Rinse and remove lids and pumps.Containers may be crushed to conserve space.

Motor Oil Containers
Poison Containers
Plastic Wrap
Plastic Bags
Wide mouth plastic containers such as Yogurt and Margarine Tubs.

Batteries

Household dry cell batteries used in:
Cameras
Watches
Toys
Flashlights
Smoke Detectors
Electronic Equipment


PLEASE: Put used batteries in a clear plastic bag beside your blue bin.

Lead acid batteries used in:
Cars
Motorcycles
Lawnmowers
Boats


These batteries are accepted at the Handle With Care Collection Center as part of our Household Hazardous Waste Program on the first Saturday of each month.

Used Motor Oil

Engine Oil used in vehicles and lawnmowers.

PLEASE: Put used oil in a CLEAN, CLEAR, PLASTIC container (such as a milk jug or a soft drink bottle) and fasten the lid securely. Put the container NEXT to your recycle bin. If the oil is not in a clear plastic container, it will not be picked up.

Transmission Fluid
Brake Fluid
Motor oil that has been mixed with other things
